This week has over all been fairly slow. Quite a bit of smaller tasks. I received a visit from my Humanities teacher Jessica. I also got to put together information packets for patients with cancer, talking about different immune support diets, important things to remember before operations and scans, and also a packet about how great coconut is. I also really enjoyed getting to perform hydrotherapy and will hopefully get to receive a hydrotherapy treatment sometime next week. I have gotten to shadow both the acupuncturist and the naturopathic doctor while she used some techniques from acupuncture. I am very interested in this and have started doing some research on acupuncture at home.
Today I was presented with a very exciting opportunity. Quite a bit of my time at Namaste has been spent either shadowing practitioners or helping move paperwork to the cloud. I have several very interesting conversations with one of the massage therapists here about the general field of natural medicine. Today while shadowing her she taught me a procedure called Naturopathic Constitutional Hydrotherapy. The procedure of hydrotherapy is a series of hot and cold compresses applied to different areas of the body, along with electric STEM on specific points of the back and abdomen. The goal of this treatment is to help increase blood flow which also boosts the immune system. On Thursday I will be able to do part of the treatment.
My first week at Namaste mostly consisted of me getting settled in. I had many opportunities to talk to the doctors and various healers that work there. I got to shadow both an MD and a Naturopathic Doctor through several appointments. I also got to read quite a bit of information about a procedure called mistletoe therapy which I am presenting about for exhibition at the beginning of April.
Today concludes my second day working at Namaste Health Center. So far I have been working mostly to help transfer lab information into the cloud so that the doctors here can access the information wherever they need to. This has been giving me the opportunity to talk to many of the doctors as I am working in a fairly common area. I have also been learning a great deal of terminology used in lab reports along with many procedures used to test for deficiencies or illnesses. Over the summer working in retail I was very shocked at how many people felt trapped there and did not enjoy their work; they knew everything there was to know about that store, but still hated it. Here at Namaste I have been very happy to see a very peaceful and enjoyable work environment, where the doctors and my mentor Cyd, the owner of Namaste, know everything about their jobs and are very passionate about them. So far I have greatly enjoyed working with people who love to help people so much.
